When I was a kid, I loved to sing and was a fan of what was then called “pop music.” This was back in the Middle Ages, way before the time of Elvis and Bill Haley who were later to rock around the clock. Anyway, during those years there was a popular radio program called “Your Hit Parade.” It featured two singers, Gisele MacKenzie and a fellow with the ridiculous name of Snooky Lanson. (Can you imagine him as a teen-ager calling up a prospective girlfriend and saying, “Hi, this is Snooky”….). Each week, these two would sing the seven most popular songs of that week.
In any event, since my mother told me that I started to sing along with jingles before the age of one, I’ve always remembered how these two signed off following the final commercial, “L.S.M.F.T” (which stood for “Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco”). It went like this:
So long for a while
That’s all the songs for a while
So long from your Hit Parade
And the songs that you asked to be played.
Sooo long....
Well, I can adapt that jingle here to say,
So long for a while
That’s all the blogs for a while….
Yes, I need to take a little vacation from writing blogs in order to attend to the continuing trials of my body as I battle against the forces of entropy (details not available on request). But also as my 87th birthday draws nigh this month, I want to connect with old friends whom I haven’t seen in a long time and then enjoy the holidays later in December. If I should survive into the new year, I hope to continue writing my blogs at least occasionally, but we’ll see.
But for now, I want to thank you for reading my blogs, and wish you all the very best for the upcoming holidays and the new year.
“Sooo long for a while….”
Wishing you all the best, with thanks for all the wisdom and encouragement you have shared over the years. From a grateful fan in Texas.
ReplyDeleteTake care, Ken. Have a lovely Holiday Season.
ReplyDeleteAs we are of "almost-the-same" generation, yes, I certainly recall Gisele MacKenzie and that jingle. Another of the same ilk was sung by the equally-beautiful Dale Evans (with Roy Rogers) at the end of their TV programs: "Happy Trails to You, Until We Meet Again..." - Your blogs have brightened an otherwise lack-luster 2022 for me and especially the recent one of your "dialogue" with the former NDEr as she gave up her "Earth Suit" while you virtually held her hand. Thank you, Ken, for sharing; I look forward (whether you do or not!) to many new "blog-adventures" in 2023. Happy Holidays & Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteAs a person approaching your age, Ken, I too remember those names and the jingle. Indeed, "Happy Trails until we meet again" is appropriate as well. Many thanks for your many contributions to NDE research and your latest "Blogging" book which I was happy to review on Amazon. Look forward to more blogs from you in 2023.
